Hitchcock Week
Window cling, web ads, print ads, and email
Overview
Each year the Paramount Theatre partners with Fangoria to present Hitchcock Week, where the Paramount Theatre shows a lineup of Hitchcock’s films. In 2024 I designed a window cling, web ads, print ads, and email graphics for the occasion.
Analysis and Moodboards
I looked at original posters for many of Hitchcock’s films. I loved the vibrant, violent red of the posters below, and the use of repeating geometric shapes to create tension, especially in the North by Northwest poster below.
Sketches
I had two ideas I worked out in sketches: One was to focus on Afred Hitchcock’s silhouette, and the other was to use a woman screaming as the focal point.
Digital Drafts
Ultimately I preferred the designs with Alfred Hitchcock’s image because I thought as a window cling his large, hulking silhouette would be more eye-catching.
Final Designs
In feedback we mocked up how the window cling would look from the street and it helped shape some of my final decisions. I chose to have a white background with red squares in the end because the white would stand out more effectively to people passing by the building, and it also gave the cling a poster-like feel.
Reflection
I enjoyed the challenge of designing something that needed to work in very different environments. It was fun to consider the different places it would need to stand out. Initially, I knew I would design a window cling and some web advertisements. The email size and the print ads were added later, but it was a good lesson to ask questions at the beginning of projects to uncover all the potential use cases for the design.
